Whatsapp platform for homegarden visits
This WhatsApp-based service is a low-bandwidth, interactive digital platform designed to deliver behavior change communication, community monitoring, and educational content in remote and low-resource settings. It leverages WhatsApp’s widespread accessibility to reach adolescents, caregivers, farmers, and local leaders with tailored messages, mini-assessments, and multimedia content.
Originally adapted from chatbot flows built in TextIt and integrated through 360dialog and Meta Business APIs, the service provides:
Automated dialogues for nutrition, agriculture, and health education;
Behavioral nudges and interactive learning modules grounded in SBC frameworks like UNICEF’s BDM and the COM-B model;
Community feedback loops for local program monitoring (e.g. home garden assessments, grant conditions tracking);
Conditionality support tools, such as attendance verification and reminders tied to cash or in-kind assistance;
Multilingual support, including Lao, Thai, and Spanish content;
Low-data image delivery for visual benchmarks (e.g. good vs. poor home garden conditions).
It is currently deployed across multiple rural districts in Laos under school feeding, nutrition, and resilience-building initiatives supported by WFP, UNICEF, and national partners.
